- Applicant has taken the correct U.S. exam
- Applicant has worked in nursing or has taken the U.S. NCLEX exam sometime in the past four years
- Applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Complete an application online or on paper and pay the $186 fee. If you completed the paper application, mail it and the fee to: Texas Board of Nursing, 333 Guadalupe Suite 3-460, Austin, Texas 78701.
- Complete a criminal background check through the Department of Public Safety and the FBI.
- Click here and click “Schedule an Appointment.”
- Click “Pay for Ink Card Submission” and complete required fields.
- Fill out payment screen.
- Print confirmation and sign the waiver.
- When you get your fingerprint cards, follow the directions on the confirmation document.
- Pass the Texas nursing jurisprudence examination.
- Before applying for the test, send your online or paper application as described above.
- Study for the test. The Nursing Practice Act (NPA), Board Rules and Regulations, and the online jurisprudence prep course provide helpful information.
- Fifteen business days after sending in your online or paper application, complete the nursing jurisprudence exam, which will take about two hours.
- Verify all nursing licenses from other states, U.S. territories, provinces, and countries.
