HOW DO I GET MY NEW YORK

NURSING LICENSE?

To obtain a New York nursing license, a travel nurse must do the following:

  • Complete the Application online here or download the PDF.
    • Be sure that you answer all of the questions and provide all the requested information.
  • Pay a $143 fee to the Office of the Professions.
    • Do not send cash.
    • Make your check payable to the New York State Education Department.
  • Send the application and fee to the following address:

  • Complete Section I of Form 2 of the Certificate of Professional Education if you graduated from a New York State licensure qualifying program before April 1, 1998 or got your education in the United States but outside New York.
    • Forward the form to your school of nursing for completion. They will send it directly to the State Education Department.
  • If you graduated from an NYSED registered RN education program before Sept. 1, 1990, you will need to complete child abuse reporting coursework. See this list of approved training providers. You can ask for exemption from this training when you apply for your license if you will not be working with people under the age of 18, nursing home residents or those in residential care schools.
  • Submit license verifications for other states in which you are licensed.
  • If your state participates in Nursys, you can request verification from there. If not, use form 3 to verify your licensure.
