HOW DO I GET MY MISSOURI

NURSING LICENSE?

Missouri is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), which allows nurses to practice in other NLC states without having to obtain an additional license. If your current home state of residence is not a state that participates in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact, applying for a Missouri nursing license by endorsement is necessary.

If a travel nurse wants to obtain their Missouri nursing license, they must follow these steps:

  • Complete, sign and notarize the application for Licensure by Endorsement found here You will need to mail it in with the associated fees, enclosing a check, money order or cashier’s check payable to the Missouri State Board of Nursing at PO Box 656, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0656. Enclose evidence of US Citizenship or legal status in the United States by filling out the form included in the application and including a copy of one of the documents listed in the instructions such as a signed passport or birth certificate.
  • Verification of Licensure is required. If your home state participates in the NURSYS system, you can complete the request on the NURSYS site, designating Missouri as the receipt of verification. If your state does not participate in NURSYS, you must contact its board of nursing for further instructions. You will need to send them the Verification of License form, found in the online application packet. They will then complete the form and submit it to the Missouri State Board of Nursing at PO Box 656, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0656.
  • Missouri also requires an official nursing transcript. Request that your nursing education program or institution that holds the official records submit the final transcripts with your current name, date of completion, diploma or degree award, a signature if the director/registrar and the school seal or stamp.
  • Head to the Missouri Automated Criminal History System (MACHS) online and register using 0001 as the four digit registration number. Follow the instructions to complete the background check.
