HOW DO I GET MY MISSISSIPPI

NURSING LICENSE?

Mississippi is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), which allows nurses to practice in other NLC states without having to obtain an additional license. If your current home state of residence is not a state that participates in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact, applying for a Mississippi nursing license by endorsement is necessary.

If a travel nurse wants to obtain their Mississippi nursing license, they must follow these steps

  • Register for an account on The Gateway, the Mississippi Board of Nursing’s portal which is used to submit all license applications. Submit the application, appropriate fee and Criminal Background Check registration. Out-of-state applicants will be mailed a Mississippi State Board of Nursing (MSNB) fingerprint card with instructions following the submission of your application for licensure. If your legal primary state of residence is Mississippi, you must call the board to schedule an appointment for fingerprinting at 601-957-6300.
  • Verification of Licensure is required. If your home state participates in the NURSYS system, you can complete the request on the NURSYS site, designating Mississippi as the receipt of verification. If your state does not participate in NURSYS, you must contact its board of nursing for further instructions. You will need to send them the Verification of License form, found in the online application packet. They will then complete the form and submit it to the Mississippi State Board of Nursing at 713 Pear Orchard Road, Suite 300, Ridgeland, MS 39157.
  • Mississippi also requires an official nursing transcript. Request transcripts from your nursing program or the institution that maintains the official records which include your basic nursing degree and date conferred. Have them sent directly to the Mississippi State Board of Nursing via eScrip-Safe or the Ridgeland address above in a sealed envelope.
