HOW DO I GET MY KANSAS
NURSING LICENSE?

Kansas is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), which allows nurses to practice in other NLC states without having to obtain an additional license. If your current home state of residence is not a state that participates in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact, applying for a Kansas nursing license by endorsement is necessary.
If a travel nurse wants to obtain their Kansas nursing license, they must follow these steps:
- Complete the application and pay the listed fees for Licensure by Endorsement online by visiting the Kansas Nursing License Portal here.
- Verification of Licensure is required. If your home state participates in the NURSYS system, you can complete the request on the NURSYS site, designating Kansas as the receipt of verification. If your state does not participate in NURSYS, you must contact its board of nursing for further instructions. You will need to send them the Verification of License form, found in the online application packet. They will then complete the form and submit it to the Kansas State Board of Nursing at 900 SW Jackson St. #1051, Topeka, KS 6612.
- Fingerprint and background checks are required for all applicants. You can go to the board in Topeka at the above address to have a live scan of your prints done or request a fingerprint card online here. It will take 7 to 10 business days to receive in the mail. Once the card has arrived, it can be taken to a fingerprinting service in your local area and mailed into the Kansas State Board of Nursing with the appropriate fee. A temporary permit may be issued while your background check is processing.
- Kansas also requires an official nursing transcript which must be received before your temporary permit expires. Request transcripts from your nursing program or the institution that maintains the official records and have them sent directly to the Kansas State Board of Nursing at 900 SW Jackson St. #1051, Topeka, KS 6612.
